LHU Multimedia Communications Students Gain Practical Experience in Risk Management and Technical Troubleshooting During Livestreams

On the morning of October 8, 2026, Multimedia Communications students from the Faculty of Information Technology at Lac Hong University participated in a practical learning session focused on risk management and technical troubleshooting in live streaming, led by guest speaker Dai Hai. The program provided students with exposure to live broadcasting operations, situational identification, and troubleshooting skills within a professional media production environment.

LHU Students Engage in Practical Training on Livestream Risk Management

Held at room B203, Facility 1, Lac Hong University, the specialized thematic program titled "Real-Time Risk Management & Technical Incidents in Practical Livestreaming" offered Multimedia Communications students a realistic perspective on operating and quality-controlling live broadcasts.

Accompanying the students was guest speaker Dai Hai, who brings 10 years of experience in TVC production, broadcasting station operations, and live streaming. Drawing from professional insights, the speaker helped students understand common technical challenges encountered during live program production while emphasizing the importance of establishing contingency plans prior to going live.

For media professionals, live streaming extends far beyond operating cameras, audio equipment, or broadcasting software. Behind a smoothly running program lies coordinated teamwork across multiple functions, ranging from visual and audio engineering, transmission lines, to content and show coordination. Consequently, the ability to identify risks and proactively manage incidents represents a vital skill students must cultivate throughout their academic journey.

Identifying Technical Incidents and Immediate Troubleshooting During Livestreams

A core focus of the program centered on identifying incidents that may occur during live broadcasts, such as lagging, network congestion, stream bitrate drops, dropped frames, or audio-video synchronization errors.

These issues directly impact program quality, audience experience, and organizational reputation. Unlike recorded video, live streaming requires production crews to react swiftly as incidents unfold before viewers in real time. Through shared practical scenarios, students learned how to identify root causes, assess impact severity, and select appropriate remedial measures. Solutions such as checking transmission lines, adjusting broadcast configurations, preparing backup equipment, and establishing contingency workflows help mitigate the risk of program disruption.

Notably, students were reminded of the critical importance of pre-broadcast equipment checks, system testing, and standardizing coordination procedures among crew members. Thorough preparation not only minimizes risks but also empowers the technical team to handle situations calmly and effectively.

Students Directly Practice Handling Real-World Scenarios

Beyond absorbing theoretical knowledge, Multimedia Communications students had the opportunity to observe, discuss, and practice troubleshooting during the session. This activity helped students visualize the practical demands of running a livestream, from monitoring signals to coordinating across designated roles.

Through hands-on experience, students realized that troubleshooting is not solely the responsibility of the technical department. When issues arise during a broadcast, the host, content team, and operations crew must coordinate seamlessly, execute established protocols, and minimize any impact on the audience's viewing experience.

This also served as an opportunity to refine observational skills, quick reflexes, teamwork, and problem-solving under time constraints. These skills offer high applicability across roles such as video production, livestream operations, event organization, TVC production, and digital content development.

Alongside troubleshooting, mastering filming techniques, visual control, and post-production further elevates professional competence. Students may also refer to related filming and post-production experiential activities featured in the Canon workshop by LHU Multimedia Communications students.

Bridging Specialized Knowledge with Professional Requirements

As live streaming sees increasing adoption across brand communication, e-commerce, event organization, and digital content production, technical operational capacity and risk management emerge as distinct advantages for multimedia professionals. This thematic session provided students with insight into real-world working environments, clarified the expectations of a professional production crew, and underscored the importance of proactively anticipating unexpected scenarios.

Through practical learning activities and expert exchanges, the Faculty of Information Technology at Lac Hong University continues to empower students to develop professional expertise, practical skills, and adaptability within professional environments.

The Faculty of Information Technology at Lac Hong University extends its sincere gratitude to guest speaker Dai Hai for sharing invaluable, practical insights rooted in extensive field experience. It is hoped that the knowledge and experiences gained from this program will serve as a useful toolkit, enabling students to step forward with confidence when producing media content and operating live broadcast programs in the future.

Learn from practice, master professional skills, and stay ready to navigate unexpected situations within the digital media landscape!
