Morning Theory Session on Journalism

The program commenced at the Tuoi Tre Newspaper Editorial Office with theoretical insights and practical sharing regarding the journalism profession.

Students learned about topic selection, content development, information gathering, interviewing subjects, video recording, and visual storytelling. Additionally, speakers shared insights into the journalistic production process and the application of technology and artificial intelligence in creative content development and finalization.

These shared insights provided students with a clearer understanding of a journalist's work and the practical requirements demanded of a media product.

Following the theoretical session, students transitioned to the practical segment.

On-Site Filming and Interviewing at the Metro Station

The practical training venue took place along the Ben Thanh – Suoi Tien metro line.

At the site, student groups were tasked with independently discovering stories, selecting subjects, conducting interviews, and capturing footage. Rather than merely practicing through simulated classroom scenarios, students had to observe, identify presentation angles, formulate questions, and manage situations arising during field reporting.

For Multimedia Communications students, this presented an opportunity to apply their acquired knowledge in videography, interviewing, content creation, and storytelling within a real-world context.

Each student group divided tasks among themselves, assigning roles for conducting interviews, operating cameras, handling content support, and recording information. Through this process, students refined their professional skills while enhancing teamwork and collaborative capabilities.

Returning to the Editorial Office to Finalize and Submit Articles

Following fieldwork along the metro line, student groups returned to the Tuoi Tre Newspaper Editorial Office to complete their products. The images, information, and interview content gathered on-site were filtered, processed, and shaped into final media products by each group. The students' journey unfolded continuously from theoretical instruction and field practice, recording, and interviewing, to returning to the editorial office for finalization and submission. Through this activity, students experienced a comprehensive content production workflow from conceptualization to final product delivery.

Activities Integrated into the Curriculum at No Additional Cost

Discussing the initiative to bring students to Tuoi Tre Newspaper for study and practice, MSc. Nguyen Minh Son, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Information Technology at Lac Hong University, stated that the activity is implemented within the university's curriculum and aligns with the learning outcomes of the Multimedia Communications major.

Accordingly, students are provided with favorable conditions to study authentically, work practically, and apply classroom knowledge within a real-world environment. Notably, this activity incurs no fees for students. The university covers all organizational expenses within the framework of the academic program.

MSc. Nguyen Minh Son shared: "This activity is part of the curriculum, so the university covers all expenses. The university is committed to maintaining tuition stability throughout the course of study and collects no additional fees from students."

Organizing practical learning activities directly within the curriculum demonstrates the institution's commitment to enhancing professional exposure, enabling students to experience actual working environments while still in university.

Authentic Learning, Practical Work, Real Experience

For Multimedia Communications students, a day of "Doing Journalism with Tuoi Tre" served as more than just an extracurricular activity—it formed an integral part of their professional training and development. Moving from the classroom at the editorial office to the field along the metro line, and back to the newsroom to finalize their products, students directly experienced multiple stages of media production.

Through this, students gained a clearer understanding of the profession, identified skills requiring further refinement, and built greater confidence when entering future internships and workplaces. The activity also contributes to strengthening the connection between the university, media organizations, and learners, bringing the professional environment closer to the lecture hall.

A day of journalism concluded with the completion of the first student-produced works. More importantly, students gained a practical experience that helped them understand the profession, test their capabilities, and prepare for their future careers.
